William Fullard

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bill Fullard, Independence Sinfonia's founder and first clarinet for most of its history. Bill dedicated endless hours to the orchestra and in turn to the enrichment of our community through music. His legacy will continue to be heard in every note we play.

With his sharp wit and warm heart, Bill was not just the creator of this orchestra, but also a passionate leader, mentor, and friend to many. His commitment to the group and the many musicians whose lives it touched will be remembered by all who knew him.

We intend to honor Bill in upcoming concerts, but truly, his vision will live on in every performance we play. We are forever grateful for the foundation he laid.

The Independence Sinfonia is an orchestra founded in 1995 by musicians from the Delaware Valley. Our members include talented musicians from all walks of life, including professional musicians, music teachers, doctors, college professors, lawyers, accountants and scientists all of whom are united in the love of music. We are frequently joined by prominent professional musicians as soloists.

Daniel Matsukawa, Music Director, is the Principal Bassoon of The Philadelphia Orchestra. He has extensive conducting experience abroad and in the United States. Mr. Matsukawa conducted in the Pacific Music Festival's 20th anniversary concert in Japan garnering famous conductor Maestro Christoph Eschenbach's appraisal of Mr. Matsukawa as a "new conducting star".

Mission Statement: The Independence Sinfonia is dedicated to excellence in the learning and performance of music for chamber orchestra. We strive to:
- Improve our individual musical skills and knowledge of classical music
- Engage in focused and challenging rehearsals
- Enrich our communities by fostering an excitement for, and enjoyment of, classical music
